I and J are for Imherp and Joachim

I is for Imherp. Imherp is the Kningrad nation and home to King Eyvindur and Queen Fiona, Joachim’s inlaws. The Kningrad royal city of Freiburg as well as the Sanctuary of Nine Dragons are located in Imherp. In Sanctuary of Nine Dragons both Brandan and Joachim will travel there, although their reasons are vastly different. Brandan’s motives could destroy the world. Joachim’s are to save himself so he can save the world from his brother’s evil plots.

J is for Joachim. Joachim is Brandan’s twin brother, whom you already met. Although twins, sharing their parents is one of the only things they do share. Or do they? You have to read the books to find out.

Here is a little about Joachim:

Prince Joachim: His dark complexion and subtle good looks would make one think he was the evil twin. However Joachim is the more studious and obedient of the pair. He excels in everything he undertakes, especially the magic of Asha.

Joachim feels a very deep bond with his twin. It is so intense that he will do anything for his brother including taking on a punishment that he did not deserve. Perhaps his greatest fault is his loyalty to his brother. He hopes that one day Brandan will be reformed and is confused by his brother’s behavior.

Joachim is maybe too good for his own good. When he imagines he has done wrong he blames and punishes himself and that could be his undoing, as he lets evil forces into his psyche. He is his own worst critic and that might not bode well for him when he faces the trials of being kidnapped and betrayed.

H is for Hyogo

H is for Hyogo. Hyogo is an island in the Takan Ocean. At the end of Palace of the Three Crosses: Book Two King Joachim banishes his friend and personal guard,  Lukan, to the prison island of Hyogo. At the beginning of Sanctuary of Nine Dragons: Book Three he realizes his mistake as his brother Brandan returns to the palace. Through a series of events Joachim has no choice but to banish his brother to the prison island to live with a community of monks that live and work there.

Although it is a secondary setting it still plays a minor role in the happenings in Sanctuary of Nine Dragons. A few characters you will recognize from Book Two are on the island and preparing to make trouble. When you add the banished Brandan to the mix chaos and danger will ensue.
