So today I was a little reluctant to post. Not because I hadn’t met my goals for yesterday, but because I just barely met them and almost didn’t even try. After a full day of running around like crazy, doing family things, when 9:00 rolled around the last thing I felt like doing was spending anytime, no matter how short typing on the novel. Besides the fact that I seemed to be stuck, and bored with the story.
You may be saying it’s only been four days how can you be bored or stuck already. Well my two main characters decided to take a short hiatus and didn’t feel like playing, so what was I to do.
I knew after sitting here everyday and writing about how you had to keep plodding onward, that the last thing I could do was throw in the towel for a day, especially after only four days. How would that look? But I was in a real conundrum, two main characters on strike, my eyes ready to close on their own and no word war buddies in sight.
First I open up Write or Die, a wonderful little program that can help you focus on your writing. I set a goal, but what do I write? I flip through my outline. Whoa, wait a minute, here are a couple of other characters. Their story picks up later in the book, but they want to play. Where is it written that I have to write this story in chronological order at least for the duration of this competition? Okay if my mc’s won’t play, I’ll play with a couple of characters that will. Besides I won’t to know what happened to Waldrom since the end of the war. And there are a few other characters, like Melvane and Amleht that need to stand up and be recognized and how about those two new characters, what were their names, Alfreda and Derdrom (could be subject to a name change in future drafts) They all start screaming in my head. I guess I had better let them out. So out they come and 1300 words later they have met my goal for the day. Thank you, you bunch of crazy characters. I wonder how the mc’s are feeling now about their refusal to play.
Anyway so this morning after I do a blog post I set up my Write or Die and once again my mc’s come out to play. And all it took was a little chapter shifting and secondary character attention.
Now I am back on track and the day is still young. My goal for today is to get today’s along with tomorrow’s numbers done. A tall order, but I know there will be at least one word war later today so I think it is a doable goal. (besides I already have 1000 toward it anyway, only 3000 more.)
