This book has an interesting story line, but I think Ms. Lamb did the story an injustice by not developing it more. The young man Ellis is destined to be the king of the fictional land of Allon. With the help of some mysterious strangers he is thrust on this journey to save his world from evil. It is a story about faith and destiny.

You know from almost the beginning that Ellis is destined to be King of Allon, but when faced with a challenge, he seems to overcome them too easily. The reader doesn’t see him really being tested and struggling with the outcome of each challenge. Even when he is mortally wounded near the end, we don’t get a sense of the struggle he has to recover and find his way back to his destiny. Things just appear to come too easy for him.

Even with this shortcoming, the story does impart a good message, although the hero comes to the realization too easily for me, and that is to fully put your trust in the Creator (In the case of this story Jor’el) and He will guide you through.

This book is worth the read for the message it portrays, but Ms. Lamb could have done more with the story line and character development to make this book an excellent read.
