H is for Hammer

H is for Hammer. I started out wanting to write something inspirational using from Horror to Hope. I live in Pennsylvania and this morning in a nearby school district there was a horrific incident where a student for some unexplained reason took a knife to school and stabbed nineteen students and one security guard. As I watched the news with horror and thanked God that my middle school aged daughter did not attend that school, I could not and still can’t wrap my brain around the horror or how one can find hope in the disaster.

Anyway I chose to write something light and unrelated. So here it is. H is for Hammer.

My name is Hammer. I don’t know how I got that name. Seems people have called me that for as long as I can recall. I don’t remember being particularly vicious as a child, but people definitely didn’t mess with me for fear of being pounded. I don’t know who started that rumor, but it certainly has come in handy. I even found a really good job because of it.

Others like me have come and gone. I guess they didn’t have enough power behind their swing. A few I even had to dispose of myself.

But none have ever come close to taking my job. My boss relies on me when no one else can do the job.

The hammer part of this post is part of a Blog hop Wildcard Wednesday Fiction Improv at the Will Write for Tomato Pie at erinmccolecupp.com. Be sure and hop over there and check out the hop.

  1. I saw the sad news on TV. Why does a young person do such a horrible act?

It is interesting how kids get nicknames. Your post might give a clue. Someone starts calling a person by a name and others follow, until no one remembers who started it. Maybe the person then associates him/her self with the name, good or bad. And I’m just rambling, trying to make sense of this crazy world.

    Glad your daughter is safe.
