Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. (Isaiah 60:1)
The rainy season has started here in Washington. We see hardly any sunshine. Along with the change in weather I have noticed a marked change in mood around our house. So much so that last evening both my husband and I both had melt downs at the same time. After a screaming match we ended the evening not talking to each other or the kids.
We wake up this morning, the sky is dark, the forecast more rain. My granddaughter is angry because for the second time since she has been staying with us, the tooth fairy missed her tooth. Things seem to be picking up where they left off last night.
Time for a short Bible study. The girls and I have developed a habit of doing a short Bible reading and devotion, before we go to breakfast each morning. I also do a personal devotion even before that. Something interesting happens after the devotions. I go downstairs to prepare breakfast. My daughter comes down a few minutes later, still in her pj’s. She is holding a dollar bill and tells me to give it to my granddaughter and then she runs back upstairs to get ready for school.
They both come down a few minutes later, dressed and ready for breakfast. Granddaughter finds the dollar bill and I explain, the tooth fairy left it on my desk because she couldn’t find her way to Andi’s bed through the messy bedroom. She accepts the story and the morning proceeds without further incident.
Now the house is empty. Hubby is at a meeting, the girls are at school, I am sitting here in the family room, looking out the window at the dark sky. Suddenly, as if by magic, the sun peaks out from behind the clouds. It only remains out for a few minutes, but what a glorious few minutes. It’s not your usual sunshine, but that sunshine that only happens on a rainy day. It has a glow, like a peak at what will be.
Funny as a writer, I should have the words to describe this sunshine, but they seem to elude me.

Anyway the clouds return, but I am left with a feeling of hope and peace. Just like the sunshine my family with God’s guidance led us out of the gloominess for a few moments, showed us a little bit of heaven on earth.
Invite God in. He will bring the sunshine.
Dear Most Awesome Loving Jesus, remind me to invite you into my life, to open the door to you when the day seems darkest, when tempers run high, when the world threatens to overwhelm me. Thank you Lord Jesus for the sunshine and the rain, for the tears and the smiles, for little girls who unexpectedly remind me of all that is good and from you. This I pray through your most gracious and merciful son, Jesus. Amen
All for the Glory of God,
Chris
